The Catholic Women's
League of
Canada
Peterborough Diocesan
Council
Theme: Women of Peace and Hope: Seek, and Ye Shall Find
Welcome! On
June 17th, 1920, the Catholic Women’s League of Canada was organized nationally, and was granted federal incorporation in 1923. In 1921, the League was affiliated with WUCWO (World Union of Catholic Women’s Organizations). The Catholic Women’s League of Canada was officially recognized by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) as a national private association of the faithful in 2005.
From
its organizational beginnings the League perceived the need for Catholic lay
women’s action in all aspects of Canadian life.
On
November 5th, 1921, the Peterborough Diocesan Council of the Catholic
Women’s League of Canada received its charter.
The
Diocesan Council is composed of its officers, presidents of Catholic Women’s League parish councils in the diocese, accredited delegates at convention and honorary life and life members holding a membership in the League.
The
Diocesan Executive is composed of the elected diocesan officers and presidents of each of the Diocesan Catholic Women’s League parish councils.
The
Diocesan Council meets in Annual Convention in April or May for the purpose of promoting the Objects and Policy of the League, planning future programs, receiving annual reports, and the election of officers if applicable. The Diocesan Executive also meet at least twice a year, prior to and after their Annual Convention.
Message from the 2008 - 2010 Peterborough Diocesan Catholic Women's League President Virginia Lynch
The Diocesan theme is “Women of Peace and Hope: Seek, and Ye Shall Find”. Our main goals for the next two years are to increase the spiritual opportunities for all members, and to strive for better communication with all members.
Our Spiritual Advisor Rev. Tom Lynch spiritually leads our Diocesan Council and we enjoy sponsorship from The Most Reverend Nicola De Angelis, Bishop of Peterborough Diocese.
Peterborough
Diocesan Council is one of thirteen Catholic Women’s League Diocesan Councils in Ontario. In Peterborough Diocese we presently have 31 active parish councils, which, in 2008 had a combined membership of 2,177 members. We are part of a National organization with a membership of approximately 95,000 plus members.
Many
of our councils in Peterborough Diocese have been active from the inception of our National Catholic Women’s League Council in 1920 and have achieved great works of charity and social action through prayer, humility, and service "to God and Canada".
All councils are encouraged to strive for an equal mix of "Faith, Fellowship and Fulfillment"
in all that we do.
May
our Patroness, Our Lady of Good Counsel, continue to guide us,
Virginia
