Council of Priests
There are twelve (12) members on the Council of Priests: four (4) priests elected by those priests serving in a deanery who then act in the capacity of the Dean and as regional members on the Council; five (5) priests are elected from the entire presbyterium to represent the following categories - retired priests, the religious priests serving in the diocese, one incardinated priest for those who are less than 10 years of ordination, one incardinated priest representing those ordained 10-30 years, and one incardinated priest representing those ordained between 30-50 years; in addition to the following ex officio members of the Council - the vicar general, the chancellors of spiritual and temporal affairs, finally there is the possibility that two additional priests may be appointed by the bishop to serve on the Council.
Regular elections are held to replace a portion of the elected members on a three year cycle. These members are limited to two consecutive terms as outlined in the Statutes. By virtue of their offices, the Vicar General and Chancellors are members of the Council. The council meets four times annually.
