Jubilee Year 2025: Events
Celebrating the Jubilee
As boldly proclaimed in the opening words of Pope Francis' Bull of Indiction, “Spes non confundit. Hope does not disappoint,” hope is the unifying theme of the Ordinary Jubilee of 2025. The Jubilee Year begins with the traditional opening of the Holy Door of St. Peter's Basilica on December 24, 2024 by Pope Francis and continues until the closing of the Holy Door on January 6, 2026, the solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord. During that time, the Pope calls on us to embark on a pilgrimage of hope together, so that, "Through our witness, may hope spread to all those who anxiously seek it. May the way we live our lives say to them in so many words: 'Hope in the Lord! Hold firm, take heart and hope in the Lord!'" (Ps 27:14).
In his papal bull, the Holy See also wrote, “My thoughts turn to all those ‘pilgrims of hope’ who will travel to Rome in order to experience the Holy Year and to all those others who, though unable to visit the City of the Apostles Peter and Paul, will celebrate it in their local Churches.” As Pope Francis points out, we don't have to travel to Rome to participate: dioceses and parishes across the world will mark the Jubilee with pilgrimages, Masses, and other special events throughout the year.
