Campus Ministry
The years of a young person's post-secondary education form an extremely important phase in his or her development. These are exciting years when young people boldly venture into an arena of greater independence, when they forge important new relationships and when their world views are expanded and developed. These are, therefore, years when our young people need the support and encouragement of the Church. Good-hearted young men and women want to share the excitement of their studies, their new relationships and their questions with other young people who are seeking what is good, true and beautiful. Here in Peterborough, important steps are being made to ensure that this important network of support is available to our young people. Father John Perdue has been appointed to serve as Catholic Chaplain to the students of Trent University and Sir Sanford Fleming College, and as Director of the Saint John Paul II House of Discernment, one of the residences of Sacred Heart College. Father John has been working with the Catholic Council of Trent (CCoT), the Catholic student group at Trent University. CCoT is an association of Catholic students, faculty and staff at Trent University that seeks to support its membership in the development of their faith and to spread the Gospel on campus. Many great friendships have been formed through CCoT and some students have even ended up finding roommates for their upper years through our group. The CCoT executive is working on an article to publish in the Trent University newspaper, the Arthur, and on the first ever alumni newsletter to keep past CCoT members informed about the group's activities.
At Sir Sanford Fleming College, the Fleming College Catholics (FCC) have been officially recognized as a student group on both the Peterborough (Sutherland) and Lindsay (Frost) campuses. Holy Mass has been offered twice at the Sutherland campus and the Steele student centre has been booked for the first FCC event, a Theology on Tap.
